Connection Grants

Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. Applications may be submitted by institutions (e.g., university led events) or individual applicants and teams.
For Connection Grants supporting events, the minimum request is $7,000 to a maximum value of $25,000 over one year. For outreach activities, SSHRC is willing to consider amounts higher than $50,000, although such applications must satisfactorily justify the need for the higher amount, as well as provide evidence that the entire award can be managed within the one-year timeframe. SSHRC Connection is a matching fund opportunity (e.g., $10K from SSHRC to $5K in cash or valued in-kind from Entity ABC). A support letter from the matching fund entity must be submitted with the application.
SSHRC has recently launched a Research Data Management Capacity Building Initiative. For more information, please visit: www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/programs-programmes/data_management-gestion_des_donnees-eng.aspx
SSHRC invites all applicants to review Imagining Canada’s Future’s 16 future global challenges and to consider addressing one or more of these areas in their research proposal. This is not an evaluation criterion for merit review and does not offer additional or dedicated research funds for this funding opportunity.
Eligibility: Applicants (except postdoctoral researchers) must be affiliated with an eligible Canadian institution at the time of application.
Multiple Applications/Holding Multiple Awards restriction: Individuals may apply as an applicant for only one Connection Grant per calendar year. An applicant may not apply for or hold more than one Connection Grant for the same event or outreach activity.
Key Deadlines:
SSHRC has 4 competitions per year: Feb 1, May 1, Aug 1, Nov 1. If the date falls on a weekend/holiday, the submission date is the following workday. SSHRC's decision date is 2 months after SSHRC's deadlines.
*Signature sheet due to ORS and Application in "Submit Mode" no later than 3 business days in advance of deadline.
