Confederation of University Faculty Assns. of BC (CUFA BC) Distinguished Academics Awards

The purpose of the CUFA BC Distinguished Academics Awards is to recognize academic staff members of British Columbia public research universities who have made outstanding contributions to the community beyond the academy through their academic work. There are three awards: Early in Career Award for outstanding contributions made by scholars at relatively early stages in their careers, the Ehor Boyanowsky Academic of the Year Award for a specific and recent outstanding contribution to the community beyond the academy, and the Paz Buttedahl Career Achievement Award for sustained outstanding contributions to the community beyond the academy. *NEW for 2021: Award recipients each receive a $2,000 prize.
Eligibility: Current members of a CUFA BC member faculty association (SFUFA). For the Early in Career Award, nominees are typically no more than five years from PhD or within three years of appointment as an assistant professor. Award recipients must be willing and able to attend the awards dinner and make a brief presentation of their work.
Internal process: These are institutional nominations. Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) coordinates the internal selection of SFU candidates and leads the development of institutional nominations or endorsements for this opportunity. To promote equity, diversity and inclusion, departments and faculties should ensure that all eligible candidates are considered and given the opportunity to self-identify. To recommend a candidate to the President’s Advisory Committee on Awards, Honours and Prizes, please submit a candidate suggestion form by the internal deadline. For more information, please visit the ISA website or contact awards@sfu.ca.
