Balzan Prize

The Balzan Prize’s aim is to foster culture, the sciences and the most meritorious initiatives in the cause of humanity, peace and fraternity among peoples throughout the world. The Prizes worth CHF 750,000 each are awarded in four subject areas, which change every year: literature, moral sciences, and the arts; physical, mathematical and natural sciences and medicine; humanities, peace and fraternity among peoples. The four subject areas change every year. No more than four prizes may be awarded in any one year.
Note: These are institutional nominations. Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) coordinates the internal selection of nominees and/or institutional endorsements/external expert reviews. To promote equity, diversity and inclusion, departments and faculties should ensure that all eligible candidates are considered and given the opportunity to self-identify. To recommend a candidate to the President’s Advisory Committee on Awards, Honours and Prizes, please submit a candidate suggestion form by the internal deadline.
