Fermi Awards

The Enrico Fermi Award is given to encourage excellence in research in energy science and technology benefiting mankind; to recognize scientists, engineers, and science policymakers who have given unstintingly over their careers to advance energy science and technology; and to inspire people of all ages through the examples of Enrico Fermi, and the Fermi Award laureates who followed in his footsteps, to explore new scientific and technological horizons. The award carries an honorarium of $50,000.

Eligibility: The Fermi Award is given for distinguished achievement, leadership, and service related to all basic and applied research, science, and technology supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and its programs. The Fermi Award is not limited to researchers whose work has been funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (or its predecessor agencies). The Fermi Award is not limited to U.S. citizens.
