Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research

The Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research was established in recognition of the distinguished leadership, vision and innovative contributions of Dr. Henry G. Friesen. Award consists of a cash prize of $35,000 CAD plus up to $5,000 for travel and hospitality costs. The prize supports an annual Public Lecture at a major Canadian academic institution. Through the partnership of CBC Radio One “Ideas”, a recorded interview is broadcast nationally to reach the broadest possible audience. A manuscript is also published in the “Friesen Prize Lecture” series.
Eligibility: Nominees with vision who have had an impact in health research and health research policy at an international level. Outstanding communication skills are essential as the winner must be able to address topics important to the nation on a level appropriate for broad public dissemination. Members in good standing of FCIHR or CAHS may make nominations, at any time, without limit. Presidents and Deans of Medicine of Canadian universities are canvassed annually for nominations and may nominate candidates.
Note: Chairs/Directors/Deans are invited to submit a pre-proposal form to Institutional Strategic Awards by the internal deadline of April 7, 2021. Candidates will be recommended by the President's Advisory Committee on Awards, Honours and Prizes to proceed to full nomination with the assistance of Institutional Strategic Awards.
