Royal Society of Canada (RSC) John L. Synge Award

The award is given for outstanding research in any of the branches of the mathematical sciences. In cases where there are two or more strong candidates, some preference is given to those whose age is not over forty in the year of the award.

Awarded in irregular intervals (the next opportunity will be in 2023), the competition typically opens in January and closes in March with an internal deadline in the preceding autumn (deadlines will be reviewed and verified annually).

Note: All nominations must be initiated by RSC Fellows or Institutional Members (IMs). Institutional Members may nominate a max. of one candidate for every Medal or Award being offered each year. Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) coordinates the internal selection of nominees for institutional nomination. To promote equity, diversity and inclusion, departments and faculties should ensure that all eligible candidates are considered and given the opportunity to self-identify. To recommend a candidate to the President’s Advisory Committee on Awards, Honours and Prizes, please submit a candidate suggestion form by the internal deadline.
