Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Rutherford Memorial Medals

The medals are awarded for outstanding research in any branch of physics and chemistry and in recognition of Lord Rutherford’s own research carried out in Canada at a relatively young age. Some preference will be given to candidates whose age is not over forty in the year of the award.

Note: There are two routes for nomination: (1) by a Fellow, and supported by two other nominators, or (2) by Institutional Members, supported by two other nominators, neither of whom needs to be a Fellow. Institutional Members may nominate a max. of one candidate for every Medal or Award being offered each year. If an institutional nomination is sought, please contact Institutional Strategic Awards at awards@sfu.ca well in advance of the listed internal deadline. For an external expert review of a draft nomination, arranged through Universities Canada, please get in touch with awards@sfu.ca at least six weeks prior to the agency deadline.

The annual competition typically opens in mid-January and closes at the beginning of March with an internal deadline in the preceding December (deadlines will be reviewed and verified annually).
