Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Rutherford Memorial Medals

The medals are awarded for outstanding research in any branch of physics and chemistry and in recognition of Lord Rutherford’s own research carried out in Canada at a relatively young age. Some preference will be given to candidates whose age is not over forty in the year of the award.

The annual competition typically opens in January and closes in March with an internal deadline in the preceding autumn (deadlines will be reviewed and verified annually).

Note: All nominations must be initiated by RSC Fellows or Institutional Members (IMs). Institutional Members may nominate a max. of one candidate for every Medal or Award being offered each year. Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) coordinates the internal selection of nominees for institutional nomination. To promote equity, diversity and inclusion, departments and faculties should ensure that all eligible candidates are considered and given the opportunity to self-identify. To recommend a candidate to the President’s Advisory Committee on Awards, Honours and Prizes, please submit a candidate suggestion form by the internal deadline.
