Funding Opportunities: Focusing on Global Strategic Priorities
A key part of SFU’s Strategic Research Plan for 2016-2020 is to expand the university's global impact by leveraging its international presence and interdisciplinary research strengths. Aligning with this global theme, the Tri-Agencies have also established global strategic funding priorities in 2016-2020 to position Canada as a global leader in health (CIHR Framework for International Relations and Cooperation), science and technology (NSERC 2020), and social science and humanities (SSHRC’s Strategic Plan for 2016-2020).

Upcoming global funding opportunities in 2018:
For Big Data Research
CIHR in partnership with the European Commission has launched funding opportunities to foster transnational collaborations on research projects that use big data tools to solve complex problems in managing human health data (such as –omics, registries and biobanks), and their applications in personalized medicine.
For Health Research
CIHR and the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) have the following funding opportunities to support global research collaborations in mental health, pain, cardiovascular diseases, role of sex and gender in aging and health, and diet-epigenome relationships in human health.
For Community-Based Research
NSERC, SSHRC and the International Peace Research Association Foundation have a number of funding opportunities to support global research collaborations in the areas of defense/peace, gender equality, and foreign affairs.
